It`s time to innovate!
This is a new independent game in the universe of the legendary "Terra Mystica". This fantasy world is inhabited by various factions with unique abilities who compete for resources, build buildings and cities, acquire tools and money, develop science and, of course, innovate. Each game you will be able to create new combinations of factions, native areas and skills, which will make each game session unique. You`ll probably forget about other Eurogames with this game!
This dynamic Euro strategy of 2023 took all the best from the author`s previous games ("Terra Mystica" and "Gaia Project") and took it to a new level. The game managed to get nominations at some of the most prestigious board competitions, such as Golden Geek and Meeples Choice, and made it into the TOP 100 best games of all time, as well as the TOP 50 best strategies in the world according to BoardGameGeek. With a current rating of 8.7 on BGG, this quintessential Eurogame continues to win the hearts of Terra Mystica fans and players new to the universe.
Fans of the Euro genre are also advised to pay attention to "Distilled. Secrets of Drinks" is a popular thematic strategy about the creation of the most famous alcoholic beverages, as well as the legendary dieselpunk "Scythe".
Basic concepts
- Native area and terraforming. Each faction has a native terrain: deserts, plains, swamps, lakes, forests, mountains, or wastelands. A faction can only construct buildings on cells with a native terrain type, so it will terraform the terrain to suit its own needs.
- Circle of power. During the game, you will often earn power points that you will spend on performing actions and obtaining resources. There are three interconnected power bowls on your planning tablet that you will use to move your power tokens around.
- Neighborhood. It is cheaper to build your guild on a cell adjacent to a cell where there is a building of another faction. When you build next to one or more buildings of other factions, those other factions gain power points. You also gain power points when other factions build next to you.
- Foundation of the city. You automatically found a city when you have a group of at least four adjacent buildings and their combined strength value is at least seven.
- Neutral buildings. Some buildings in the game have a neutral (white) color and do not belong to any faction. These buildings can be built by any faction and will be considered as buildings of that faction.
- Field of science. Factions can track their progress in each of four disciplines on the Science field: Banking, Law, Engineering, and Medicine. Advancing through the tracks of the field of science will also allow you to gain additional power points and other bonuses.
A brief overview of the gaming system
The game lasts six rounds. Each round consists of three phases:
- Income. At the beginning of each round, you receive income in the form of new resources. The symbol of income is an open palm. You get everything pictured above the open palm. The primary source of income is your planning tablet.
- Actions. Each player takes turns performing an action until they save. Available actions:
- terraforming and construction — terraform any terrain cell to your native terrain type and build a workshop there;
- building upgrade — there are four different upgrade options: Workshop to Guild, Guild to Palace, Guild to School, and School to University;
- navigability improvement - move the marker one division up the navigation track, this increases your range;
- terraforming upgrade - move the marker one space up the terraforming track, this reduces the number of tools you have to pay for shovels when terraforming a terrain type;
- innovation implementation — after paying the costs, take an innovation token, which comes in three types: special skills, instant points, and additional buildings;
- scientist posting - place a scholar in any empty cell, which allows you to advance your status marker several levels for the corresponding discipline;
- power actions and book actions — cells of power actions and book actions are located in the lower part of the playing field; the actions of the force are the same in each batch, while the actions of the books change and will be different in each batch;
- special actions - such actions are also presented on different components and marked with an orange octagon;
- passing - when it`s your turn and you can`t or don`t want to do anything else, you must save.
In addition to an action, during your turn you may convert resources as many times as you like, before and/or after your action.
- Scientific bonuses and preparations for a new round. A player receives science bonuses for the current round if he has reached a level equal to or greater than the specified level in a certain discipline. After that, prepare for the next round, however, in the sixth round, you skip this phase and immediately go to the end of the game and the final scoring.
End of the game
Players earn points for territory, science, and resources. The player with the most points wins.
