Board Game Massive Darkness 2 - Hellscape
A standalone sequel to the famous dungeon crawler «Massive Darkness» with new adventures and gorgeous miniatures. This is a revised and improved version of the game that was released in 2022. Different hero classes now have unique mechanics, where during the game your heroes will check their luck, optimize the bag, spin the arrow on the rondel, etc.
Cooperative dungeon crawler with miniatures
Ten years after the events of the previous game, the light-bearing heroes founded a powerful organization - the Light-Bearing Guild. They set themselves the goal of uniting the world, which had suffered from the invasion of Darkness, at any cost. The guild`s headquarters was located at the Crossroads of the World, in the capital of the kingdom of Krondar.
For some time, the organization functioned quite successfully. Peace reigned everywhere. But soon mass apocalyptic dreams began. It was a sign. A warning that the worlds had overlapped and portals had opened.
The Darkness has returned. Sinful angels and demons, devils and demons, the dead and skeletons have crawled out of all the cracks. In the adventures, the light bearers will meet the lord of the incubi and the queen of the dead, the crazy archangel Michael and Death herself. They will reach Hell and try to successfully return back. We guarantee that these adventures will be remembered by you for a long time.
Gameplay
At the beginning of the game, the participants choose heroes and an adventure. They lay out all the necessary components on the table.
The game consists of rounds. Each round is divided into 4 phases:
- Hero Phase
Players decide in which order they will activate their heroes. An activated hero can perform 3 actions of any kind:
- Movement. The hero is given 2 movement points. For each point, you can move to an adjacent zone, open a door, or pick up a token.
- Attack. The type of attack depends on the weapon. Melee weapons allow you to attack an enemy in the same zone, magic weapons - in the same zone or in an adjacent zone, ranged weapons - a target in line of sight in an adjacent zone or further. The chosen weapon determines the number and types of dice for the attack. If the attacker is in Darkness, he takes the corresponding dice. The defender takes defense dice. Enemies also take bonus dice from various powers, abilities, and equipment. All dice are rolled simultaneously. All effects are applied, reflected and unreflected hits are counted, and the target is wounded. If the total number of wounds equals the life value, the enemy is destroyed, and its figure is removed from the dungeon.
- Recovery. Get 2 tokens - health and mana in any combination.
- Exchange and equip. All heroes in this zone can equip and/or exchange equipment.
- Special action. Perform a special action on a card with the word "Action".
- Enemy phase
All enemies are activated. Players determine the order of activation.
- Pack. Spends 2 actions to attack heroes within range. To attack, roll the dice indicated on the pack`s equipment card. If the pack cannot attack, it moves to the nearest hero.
- Wandering Monster. Activates according to the instructions on the card.
- Development Phase
Heroes spend earned experience points to increase their skill levels to the maximum possible.
- Darkness Phase
The marker advances along the Darkness track. When it reaches certain divisions, packs or roaming monsters appear in the portal areas.
Bosses
In some adventures, players must defeat a boss to win. At the beginning of the game, the boss is placed in his lair. The boss is inactive until the start of the battle with the heroes. The boss battle is played according to special rules. The enemy phase is now played after each hero`s turn.
Victory and Defeat
To win the game, the lightsabers must achieve the objectives of the chosen adventure. All players lose if the respawn tokens run out or the defeat condition of the chosen adventure is met.
