Board Game High Society
A classic tabletop auction in a new edition
In this game, players are invited to become representatives of this very society - the rich with extraordinary fortunes. During the game, participants will spend their money on various luxuries (islands, yachts, horses, paintings...), gain general recognition and avoid failure. At the end of the game, the winner will be the one who has the most prestige points.
Game progress
At the beginning of the game, participants receive money cards of their colors. The Luxury, Recognition, and Failure cards are shuffled into a common deck.
Each round, an auction will be held for the card you will reveal from the top of this deck.
If a Luxury or Prestige card is revealed, the auction rules are as follows:
- The active player (the previous winner of the auction) makes the first bet, then the remaining players in turn also make a bet or fold.
- If you make a bet, it must be larger than the previous one announced.
- On your turn, you can increase your bet by adding one or more money cards from your hand to the cards you have laid out. You cannot take the laid out cards back into your hand, and instead you can only add new ones.
- You can also fold. In this case, take all the cards you laid out for the bet back into your hand. You do not bet again in this round.
- If the players pass in turn and the turn comes back to the last participant who made a bet, he wins the auction. If it happens that all participants pass, the card goes to the player who passed last for free.
- The luxury card goes to him - place it on the table in front of the winner face up. Place the money from his bet face down separately. This participant becomes the next first player and reveals a new card, starting the next auction.
However, if the shame card is revealed, the auction is different: you will bet that you will not get this card, because it will reduce your winning score. In this case, the card will be received by the participant who saves first.
End of the game
The game ends immediately when the fourth card with a dark green frame is revealed (there are three such prestige cards in the deck, which multiply the score, and one scandal card, which halves it). The players count the remaining money. The poorest participant or participants are immediately eliminated.
The remaining participants count the points on their luxury cards, taking into account special effects:
- The card "Fiasco" reduces the amount of prestige by 5 points.
- The prestige cards ("Carefree", "Delight", "First") double the amount, and can do this several times. That is, if you have three such cards, the sum is multiplied by eight.
- The card "Scandal" halves your score.
The participant with the most prestige points wins.
