Board Game War of the Ring. The Card Game

Thanks to the wild success of «War of the Ring», it became possible to release a standalone card version of the game, which will conquer the hearts of all fans of the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a wonderful transformation of the giant game for those who want to save time, but fully enjoy their favorite atmosphere.

A dramatic confrontation in Middle-earth

This is an asymmetrical game for 2-4 players, divided into two teams - the Free Peoples and the Shadows. Each player has his own deck of cards, which contains both the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing factions. In the distant Mirkwood, beyond the Inner Sea, terrible monsters have stirred up, trying to conquer the free kingdoms. Now, the free peoples are more desperate than ever to destroy the Ring and protect their lands.

Gameplay

• Each round, players take turns playing character, troop, item, and event cards. Each unique card allows you to fight, defend, or conquer fortresses to control the battlefield in Middle-earth. 
• A card can be played in front of you as a reserve, on a path card, or on the battlefield. Event cards activate one-time effects. Item cards are used to arm characters.
• The game lasts 9 rounds, and location battles will be key, as they bring victory points to your team. The game can also end if one team has a 10 victory point advantage.

Interesting mechanics

Card cycling. Each card can be played in different ways - on the path cards, in the reserve or to the discard pile, which stimulates planning. In order to play a card from your hand, you must "pay" for it with another card to the discard pile. These cards will be shuffled and returned to the player`s deck. But for completely removing a card from the game, which can result in a defeat in battle or damage to locations, you can get a good bonus.
Leadership mechanics. This mechanic provides the ability to play leaders only when joining an army, which balances the influence of powerful figures on the course of the game.

Thought-out non-obvious tactical decisions of teams and unique balanced cards play a positive role in replayability.

Game modes

The rules provide for several modes - team, duel and several scenarios. If there are three or four players, they are divided into teams of Sauron, Saruman on the one hand, and Frodo and the Free Peoples on the other. This will provide a diverse gaming experience in thematic and atmospheric design.
