A game with a 1500-year history that originated in India and was modified in Arab countries. Now chess is a very popular sport with its own federation and regular international tournaments. It is a duel abstract game in which opponents control symmetrical sets of figures. The game is played on an eight-by-eight board. Participants take turns. Victory is awarded to the one who kills the opponent`s king (or, in scientific terms, checks and mates).

All figures, except the knight, move in a straight line. The king moves anywhere at a distance of one square. The queen moves any distance diagonally, vertically or horizontally. The rook – any distance orthogonally, and the bishop-officer – diagonally. An alien piece is removed from the field if it is in the way. The knight moves with the letter G or L, it is able to jump over other pieces. Unlike the senior pieces, the pawn moves one square forward, and captures diagonally.
