Board Game Call to Adventure - Epic Origins
An exciting strategy game about the adventures of heroes in a fantasy world, inspired by the tabletop role-playing game «Dungeons & Dragons». Class and race (heritage) have been added to the hero`s characteristics, and challenge cards have become more similar to DnD quests.
Dungeons & Dragons Legacy
In this game, participants fight together against a powerful enemy. Each player creates their own character`s story, full of challenges and feats, triumphs and tragedies. Develop your character, go through challenges and unite with other players to defeat the villain and achieve victory!
At the beginning of the game, players choose a villain against whom they will fight as a team. During the game, players can compete, but at the end of the game they must join forces to defeat the enemy together. If the main villain survives, all players are defeated. However, if the players defeat the enemy together, the one who has the most fate points wins.
The Biography of a Fantasy Hero
At the beginning of the game, each player chooses four character cards: heritage, lineage, class, and fate. These cards will form the basis of the plot that will be created on the character board. Players place story cards with the points earned and skill symbols under the character cards. Skills will strengthen the character in the face of new challenges.
As the player progresses through the challenges, they develop their character. At the beginning of the game, each character already has two skill runes, indicated on their lineage card. During the challenge, the player rolls three basic runes. He also rolls the skill runes depicted on the challenge card if he has the corresponding symbols on the character and story cards. To successfully complete the challenge, you must choose a path (upper or lower) and roll as many or more successes as the difficulty of the challenge.
Gameplay
Players take turns, clockwise. On their turn, a player performs one or more actions, creating their character`s story.
Any number of times per turn, a player can:
- travel (only at the beginning of the turn). Spend an experience token to replace a story card from any row on the board.
- apply character card effects. Legacy card effects are applied when a "hero/anti-hero" rune is dropped during a challenge. Origin card effects bring experience tokens. Class cards have permanent effects if you put the required number of experience tokens on them.
- play a hero/anti-hero card. Having discarded a "hero" rune / «anti-hero» or having obtained such a symbol after passing the test, the player immediately takes the hero / anti-hero card. Having played the hero / anti-hero card, the player applies its effect and places it face down next to his board. At the end of the game, the player gains triumph / tragedy points for the cards played.
Once per turn, the player can try to add a card to the character`s story (a test card or a trait card). Act I cards are placed under the origin card, Act II cards are placed under the class card, and Act III cards are placed under the fate card. An act is considered completed if three trait or test cards lie under one character card. After that, it is no longer possible to receive trait cards or pass tests for the current act.
- Trace. To obtain a trait, a player simply takes a trait card from the row corresponding to their current act on their turn, applies its effect, and places it under the character card.
- Trial. When passing a trial, the player looks at the base difficulty of the trial and chooses a path (higher or lower, which increases the difficulty of the trial by 1). The player then takes the available runes: the three basic runes + the skill runes depicted on the trial card, if they have the corresponding symbols in their character`s history. After rolling the runes, the player applies the effects and sums up the result, adding the successes on the runes and bonuses from the card effects. If the result is greater than or equal to the difficulty of the test, the player successfully passes the test and places the test card under the character card of the corresponding act on their board.
Battle with the Villain
If the player has completed act II by placing 3 cards under the class card, on the next turn they must challenge the villain. Only after that they can proceed to act III.
The goal of the game is to defeat the villain together with the other players. The villain is represented by two cards: the villain card and the villain quest card. The villain card is double-sided: until act III it lies with the "Villain" side up, and after act III - with the "Main Villain" side up.
During the game, the villain will prevent the players from achieving victory. Every time a player discards a "hero/anti-hero" rune, the villain plays a curse card. By challenging the villain, the player passes the "Villain" challenge card. When all players have challenged the villain, the card is turned over to the "Main Villain" side. The "Main Villain" is played in Act III in the same way as the "Villain". After defeating the "Main Villain", players add up their fate points.
Scoring
Players reveal fate cards and score points for fulfilling the conditions on these cards. They then add triumph/tragedy points from the character`s story, points for their position on the Darkness Track, and 1 point for each hero/antihero card played. They also receive points for unspent fate tokens, matching story symbols on cards, and points for defeating the "Main Villain".
If the players defeat the main villain, victory is awarded to the player (or players) with the most fate points. If the players fail to defeat the main villain, everyone loses.
