A picturesque family game about preparing animals for winter.
Preparing for wintering in Maple Valley
The action of the game takes place in the village of Klenova Dolyna. This is truly a heavenly, fertile place... But winter is near, and it`s time for local animals to think about how to make wintering as comfortable as possible. Families of forest dwellers should work hard to prepare their dens for the cold, pack everything they need, buy a bunch of different things or make them yourself. Fortunately, both the market, the workshop, and the owl`s nest are still available.
Before the start of the game, a river disk and a backhoe tile are placed on the playing field. From the cards of the valley, 2 piles are formed - forest and meadow. Each stack will have spring cards on top, summer cards below, and fall cards at the bottom. The top 4 cards from the amenity deck are placed in the owl`s nest. The top cards from the improvement deck are placed on the cells of the ladder. Players receive home tablets, worker and cottage tokens, and family dice of their chosen color. Everyone takes 3 random cards from the convenience deck, keeps 2, and discards 1.
Game flow
The game lasts 8 rounds-months. Each round consists of the following phases:
A new card opens from the traveler deck in the hotel.
Each player rolls a pair of his family`s dice and places them in the house cells without changing the rolled values.
Players simultaneously place their workers in locations. Any number of workers from different players can be in one location. A player cannot place more than 1 worker in a location.
The first player (early bird) rolls 4 village dice and places them on the mound without changing the rolled values.
Players take turns, starting with the first player and going clockwise. The active player adds 2 of his family dice to the village dice on the hill. All these dice can be placed by the player in locations with his workers. By spending experience tokens, the player can modify the values on the dice: +/- 1 for each such token (the values on the dice do not change, the experience tokens are simply placed next to each other).
Then the player activates the locations with the placed dice. Once activated, it returns workers and family dice to its tablet. For each unactivated worker returned, the player receives 1 experience token.
A player can craft as many amenity cards as they want from their hand by spending the resources indicated on the cards. After that, he places the amenity cards next to his home tablet.
At the end of the turn, the player returns all the village dice to the hill without changing their values. If a player has more than 3 amenity cards in his hand, he must discard the extra cards.
The traveler`s skills are activated in the hotel, after which his card is reset. The top cards from the forest and meadow piles are discarded. The river disc is rotated 1 section clockwise. Convenience cards in the owl`s nest and improvement cards on the ladder in the workshop are shifted, the outermost cards are discarded, new ones are added from the decks. The next player clockwise becomes the early bird.
