Board Game Expeditions
A competitive exploration game with card engine building mechanics. This is a story-driven sequel to the 2023 game «Scythe», developed by the famous Jamie Stegmeier and designed by the brilliant Polish artist Jakub Ruzalski.
Players will find beautiful mech miniatures and new game mechanics, with which they will explore the site of a meteorite crash in the Siberian taiga and search for Professor Tarkovsky`s missing expedition. The game will once again transport participants to the alternative world of dieselpunk Eurasia.
Play cards to gain power, tricks, and new worker properties. Move your mechs to unexplored locations. Use workers, items, meteorites, and quests to upgrade your mechs, as well as power and tricks to cleanse this land of corruption. Gain fame and fortune to complete the most profitable expedition!
New adventures in the universe of «Scythe»
The reign of Rasputin and Fenris has ended, and a time of relative peace has come to Europe. The legendary exploits of the defenders of Europe are gradually being forgotten. The attention of the whole world is now focused on Siberia. Somewhere, near the Tunguska River, a huge meteorite fell. It was he who awakened the ancient evil.
The expedition led by Professor Tarkovsky went to the taiga to investigate the meteorite and its impact on the surrounding lands. Several months passed, and no news came from them. Only strange rumors were heard that the members of the expedition and their animals had fallen under the influence of some parasites. A rescue mission was sent for Tarkovsky, but he never returned either.
The war heroes, hungry for adventure, are raising funds for an expedition to Siberia, where they hope to find artifacts, explore the unknown, and gain fame. Having hired scout mechs, they head to the main camp to set off on their journey. This is where your story begins.
Heroes and Companion Beasts
Players can play as the following heroes and their companion beasts:
- Matthew and Caesar. Matthew is a fearless explorer, adventurer, and master of survival, especially in the coldest regions of the world. Upon learning of the mysterious disappearance of his friend, Professor Tarkovsky, he sets out on a search and rescue mission with his faithful Siberian husky Caesar.
- Spring and Voltan. Spring is the founder of the corporation «Voltan Technologies», which has become a leading supplier of robots to Europe and beyond. Upon learning of a mysterious meteorite and the missing expeditions that went after it, Spring sets out with her robotic fox, Voltan, in search of new technologies.
- Anna and Wojtek. Anna is a merchant and diplomat who seeks to help others. Upon learning of the disappearance of several expeditions and new troubles plaguing the inhabitants of Siberia, she sets off on a journey with her faithful companion — war hero Wojtek.
- Günther and Night. Günther is a famous soldier, leader, and tactician, though he lacks determination in peacetime. After learning of mysterious attacks and streaks in the Siberian snows, he sets off north with Night, his old direwolf.
- Akiko and Jiro. Akiko is a scientist who has focused in recent years on studying ancient artifacts and lost civilizations that existed long before humanity. When Akiko hears about strange events in Tunguska after a meteorite hit, she heads there with her intelligent monkey Jiro.
Gameplay
Players take turns. On your turn, you move the action token in the upper right corner of your mech board, and then perform the visible basic actions in any order - «Move», «Card», or «Gather».
- MOVE. Move your mech to one of the unoccupied locations 1 to 3 locations away. When you reach a closed location, take a map token from it, flip the location tile over, and add the filth tokens from the bag.
- MAP. Play 1 card from your hand to the activation row to benefit from the card. You can also place the corresponding worker on that card to activate its special ability. When your mech is in a location that matches the number of a task card you control, you may pay the task cost and receive a benefit. Place the task card under the top edge of your mech board.
- COLLECT. Receive any visible benefits of the location with your mech. The “Improve” benefit allows you to place a card under the right edge of the mech board to activate the card’s lasting effect until the end of the game. The “Fuse” benefit allows you to place a meteorite card under the bottom edge of the board to gain the fusion bonuses of any placed meteorites. The “Boast” benefit allows you to place a fame token on the camp space in the category for which you have met or exceeded the condition.
If an action token covers the “Move” space at the start of your turn, the “Card” or «Gathering» of your board, you can move it to the «Refresh» space (thanks to it, you can return cards you played to your hand, and workers — to your mech board).
On your next turn, move your action token to one of the action spaces (for example, «Move») and perform two other actions (for example, «Card» and «Gathering») in any order. Repeat this process until you want to perform an update.
End of the game
The game ends after the turn in which any player places their 4th glory token on the camp space. Then each player performs one final move. Calculate the total value of all coins earned during the game.
- Fame tokens in the fame category cells. Each fame token is valued based on the number of tasks you have completed: $5 / $6 / $8 / $10.
- Improved items. For each improved item, you receive the number of coins indicated in the lower right corner of the item card.
- Foul. Each foul token gives $2.
The player with the most capital wins.
