Rozhanitsya

Rozhanytsi are mythical goddesses of Ukrainian demonology who were associated with birth, fate and motherhood. They were revered as patrons of fertility, femininity and fate. Midwives were considered to be those who come to a newborn child to determine its future fate, bless and protect it.

They were often imagined as three goddesses who are present at the birth of a child, and it is they who decide what her life path will be. In some legends, they are considered to be the ones who instill a soul in a newborn, endowing him with certain character traits and talents. Mothers of God can give a child happiness, well-being, health or, on the contrary, determine a difficult fate depending on the circumstances and the will of the gods.

The images of Rozhanitsa vary: they can be depicted as kind, gentle women or as majestic goddesses with serious, mysterious faces. Their presence symbolizes the sacred connection between heaven and earth, between the divine and the human. They are invisible observers and judges who influence the life path of each person.

To fertilize Rozhanitsy, the relatives of the newborn performed special rites and offered sacrifices - bread, porridge, honey, milk. These gifts were left on a special table or near the baby`s cradle, asking the Holy Rosary for protection and blessings for the baby. It was believed that honoring the Rosary will help the child grow up happy and healthy.

Rozhanyts represent the power of fate, the mysterious energy that connects life with higher forces. They were an important part of the Slavic spiritual tradition, symbolizing the beginning of a new life and the inevitability of the appointed path.
