A new version of the popular party game «Resistance» based on the legends of King Arthur, which was developed in 2012 by American game designer Don Eskridge.
Here is a version of the game in a classic design. It also contains Lancelot cards (good and evil), an Excalibur token, and loyalty change cards. Players are offered 2 game options in which the Lancelots randomly change their loyalty during the game or know in advance when they will change their loyalty. Thanks to the Excalibur token, you can change the mission card laid out by another player.
King Arthur`s loyal servants against Mordred`s henchmen
True evil rages in the royal lands. Arthur is the only hope of Britain, without him the prosperity and glory of the country are impossible. However, Mordred`s henchmen have insidiously infiltrated the ranks of his warriors. There are few of them, but they know each other and skillfully lead Arthur`s faithful servants by the nose. Only Merlin knows all the representatives of evil, but the old wizard is forced to speak in riddles: if evil reveals him, good will lose.
This is a deductive-psychological game, the participants of which are divided into Arthur`s servants, who play on the side of the forces of good, and Mordred`s henchmen, who represent the forces of evil. Good wins if three missions are successfully completed. Evil wins if three missions are failed, Merlin is killed, or the representatives of good fail to approve a squad for the mission.
Players can voice their suspicions at any time during the game. Both Arthur`s servants and Mordred`s minions can participate in discussions, make accusations, and confuse opponents into drawing false conclusions.
Gameplay
Each player receives a random secret character card. They look at their character`s loyalty and place the card face down in front of them, not showing it to anyone. The game begins with an introduction phase, where everyone closes their eyes, Mordred`s minions open their eyes, and get to know each other. Then they close their eyes again and raise their thumbs so that the wizard Merlin can open his eyes and learn about them.
Each round consists of two phases: assembling the squad and completing the mission.
After discussion, the leader takes the number of squad tokens required for the current mission and gives one token to the selected players. If the leader wishes, he can join the squad himself, keeping one squad token for himself.
Approval of the squad. Each player, including the leader, chooses one voting token without showing it to the other players. When all players have chosen tokens, the leader orders them to be revealed. Players turn their voting tokens over so that everyone can see their choices. A squad is considered approved if the majority votes "yes". If the squad is approved, players proceed to the mission completion phase. If the squad is rejected (the majority votes "no" or the same number of players as voted "yes"), the leader token is taken by the next player clockwise and the squad assembly phase begins again.
Evil wins if players reject 5 squads in a row in one round.
The leader gives each squad member 2 mission cards: 1 success card and 1 failure card. Each squad member chooses one of these cards and places it face down in front of them. The leader collects and shuffles the mission cards that have been laid out, then reveals them. The mission is considered successful if all cards are revealed — success cards. The mission is considered failed if one or more failure cards are laid out.
End of the game
The game ends immediately after the 3rd successful or failed mission. If 3 missions are failed, the representatives of evil win. Evil also wins immediately if the players reject 5 squads in one round.
Last chance of evil: killing Merlin. If 3 missions are successfully completed, the representatives of evil get one last chance to guess Merlin and win the game. The representatives of evil discuss together which of the representatives of good can be Merlin. After that, the player with the Killer card points to one of the representatives of good. If the chosen player — Merlin, evil wins. If the representatives of evil are wrong, good wins.
