Board Game Yokai
A fast-paced cooperative memory game about Japanese spirits. This exciting logical memory filler is perfect for family gatherings or for warming up geeks between games of complex strategy games.
Fast Logical Memory Cooperative
The yokai are in trouble! Japanese spirits are very confused. Bring order to the ranks of monsters to calm them down.
This is a cooperative board game in which players are forbidden to discuss their actions. Only thanks to a good memory and coordinated teamwork will you be able to tame the spirits. Players take turns performing actions, trying to divide the yokai by type: kitsune, rokurokubi, kappa, oni.
Game progress
At the beginning of the game, players lay out the yokai cards face down in a 4 by 4 square. The participants in the game cannot communicate. To convey some information, they use clue cards.
Players take turns. On their turn, a player performs three actions in the following order:
- Looks at any two yokai cards, and then returns them to their place.
- Moves one yokai card. As a result of the move, the card must touch another card. It is forbidden to divide the cards into separate groups.
- Opens OR uses a clue card. The player can open the top clue card from the deck and place it face up next to the deck. OR place a previously revealed clue card by covering one of the yokai cards. The yokai card underneath it becomes blocked. The clue card shows one or more types of yokai. One of these types of yokai will correspond to the yokai card underneath the clue card.
Game Over
The game ends if:
- instead of taking a turn, a player declares that all yokai have been tamed;
- the last clue card is placed on a yokai card.
Players turn over all yokai cards. If all yokai have been tamed, meaning players have managed to create adjacent groups of yokai of the same type, they win the game. Otherwise, they lose.
To evaluate their success, players can count points for correctly placed and revealed clues. Experienced players can increase the difficulty level by increasing the number of multi-colored clue cards, adding affinity cards, playing without clues, laying out a specific figure from the yokai cards, etc.
