Samurai Wars
The Ashikaga Shogunate has lost its eternal power. Feudal Japan has plunged into a brutal civil war. Clan has gone against clan. Local daimyo lords have intervened in the struggle for dominance in the country.
In the game, you play the role of a samurai, an experienced warrior sworn to serve the daimyo and their clan. Use each character`s unique skills, weapons, and fighting style to outsmart your opponents in combat.
The Kamae Tree
The Kamae Tree defines your character`s basic Kamae (physical and "mental" poses), as well as their favorite Kamae. Each character has their own Kamae Tree card. When in one of the Kamae positions indicated on the Kamae Tree card, the character applies the corresponding Kamae effects on the skill cards.
Card effects allow you to change the position of your Kamae by moving the Kamae ring along the "branches" of the tree a specified distance. If the Kamae ring reaches a concentration position (it cannot be stopped), the player receives a Concentration token. Concentration tokens can be spent to pay for various effects. Some effects also allow you to immediately choose and occupy a certain position, ignoring all «branches».
Game progress
A game consists of a series of moves. It continues until one of the players wins.
Each move is divided into the following steps:
Movement effects allow a character to move one or more squares on the board or to perform one or more turns relative to the direction of the character`s face. If a player has chosen an attack skill card on their turn, they must attempt to apply its attack effect and pay the additional concentration cost (if necessary).
When a player suffers wounds, they take wound cards and place them in their play area. Some effects inflict severe wounds – the player then takes a severe wound card and places it in their play area. If a character has at least 1 severe wound card, they discard the top card of their deck each turn. The number of wounds (normal and severe) is counted to determine when a character is defeated.
Some attack effects allow a character to be pushed, pulled, or turned around on the battlefield. Blocking effects protect against attacks from opponents. Counterattack card effects allow a defending character to strike back after successfully blocking.
Winning the game
If a player hits an opponent with a crushing effect (found on some powerful attack cards), that opponent is immediately defeated, regardless of whether they have reached their wound limit.
If a character`s number of wounds equals or exceeds their wound limit, that player is defeated. The last undefeated character (or team of characters) wins any game.
