This is a new edition of the 2014 game by Alexander Pfister, with promos, add-ons and a standalone game in the series.
The new box includes:
- The base game «Port Royal»,
- The first add-on «Port Royal - Just Another Contract»,
- The second add-on «Port Royal - The Adventure Begins»,
- The promo cards «Gambler»,
- A separate game (simpler version) «Port Royal - Unterwegs!».
I liked the basic mechanics of the base game, based on the "push your luck" engine, when players draw cards from the deck and try to stop in time to many players, and in this case it also goes well with the pirate theme.
Gameplay
The participants in the game are the merchants of Port Royal, who are trying to fill their ships with the best maritime specialists. During their turn, the player can open any number of cards from the deck, pulling them out one by one and placing them in the desired place on the table.
Cards come in the following types:
- Character - usually it is sent to the player`s team. Different characters have different abilities that allow them to complete tasks and deal with ships.
- Ship - such a card immediately attacks the player`s team. The weapon icons on the team cards help to deal with the ship by discarding the card that was drawn. If the player does not have enough "sabres", the ship card remains on the table, bringing the end of the turn closer. As soon as two ships of the same color appear on the table, the player must end his turn.
- Expeditions - objective cards that remain in the player`s "harbor" until he drops the required number of characters to complete them.
- Taxes - its release will force everyone who has 12 or more coins in their hands to lose part of them.
This is a great gift for all fans of this game and lovers of pirate themes.
