At dawn, Sheriff Harry Coleman heads to the station. There he is met by a frightened woman. She reports that scientist David Hemsworth has died under mysterious circumstances: he was found barefoot and without clothes in the middle of the icy desert. Another employee, Paul Anderson, has disappeared.
