Board Game Quest
Deductive-psychological party game, an advanced version of «Mafia» with missions based on the legends of King Arthur.
Avalon Mafia
King Arthur`s troops are forced to retreat under the onslaught of Mordred`s hordes. Now the confused king gives orders to his military commanders. Each leader must quickly assemble a detachment and complete a dangerous mission. If successful, Arthur`s troops may be able to tip the scales in their favor.
The king`s orders do not tolerate delays. Leaders take into their detachments all who wish. Volunteers are never checked, so an enemy spy can sneak into the ranks of the detachment. However, powerful magic and magical amulets will help Arthur`s supporters bring Mordred`s henchmen to justice.
It`s all in your hands! Even if you fail all the missions, you still have a chance to win the decisive confrontation.
Arthur`s servants vs. Mordred`s henchmen
The participants in the game are divided into Arthur`s servants (the forces of good) and Mordred`s henchmen (the forces of evil). Good wins if three missions are successfully completed or all the representatives of evil are guessed during the Last Chance of Good. Evil wins if three missions are failed or not all the followers of Mordred are guessed during the Last Chance of Good. Evil also wins if the roles of the representatives of good are guessed during the Hunt.
Players can voice their suspicions at any time during the game. Both Arthur`s servants and Mordred`s henchmen can participate in discussions, make accusations, and confuse opponents so that they draw false conclusions.
Gameplay
At the beginning of the game, players receive secret character cards. They choose the first leader. The game begins with the introduction of the representatives of evil - everyone closes their eyes, and then, at the leader`s command, the representatives of evil open their eyes and look at each other.
The game consists of several rounds. Each round consists of three phases: gathering a squad, completing a mission, and the final phase. At the end of the game, the players are faced with the last mission.
- Assembling the squad phase. After discussion, the leader takes the required number of squad tokens and gives one token to the selected players. The leader chooses the players at his own discretion, without voting. The leader can choose himself. Having assembled the squad, the leader decides who to give the magic token to. The leader can keep the magic token for himself. The player with the magic token may not play a failure card, unless his role requires otherwise.
- Completing the mission phase. The leader gives each squad member 2 mission cards: 1 success card and 1 failure card. Each squad member chooses one of the cards and places it face down in front of him. The representative of good must choose a success card (unless his role requires otherwise). The evil representative can choose both a success card and a failure card (unless his role or magic token provides otherwise). The leader collects and shuffles the mission cards laid out, and then reveals them. The mission is considered successfully completed if all the exposed cards – are success cards. The mission is considered failed if one or more failure cards are laid out.
- Final phase. The leader passes the leader token to a player who was not the leader yet.
End of the game
The game ends if the players fulfill one of two conditions:
- Having successfully completed 3 missions, the good representatives win. The game ends. If the Blind Hunter is playing, he reveals his role and begins the Hunt. This stage is played without discussions and the Last Chance for Good.
- After failing 3 missions, players move on to the last mission. At this stage, both good and evil can win.
Last Mission
After failing 3 missions, players immediately move on to the last mission. The last mission begins with a five-minute discussion and ends with either the Blind Hunter Hunt or the Last Chance for Good.
The Hunt
The Hunt only takes place if the Blind Hunter additional character is playing. If the Blind Hunter does not want to start the Hunt, he can remain silent. Then the players move on to the Last Chance for Good stage. If the Blind Hunter wants to start the Hunt, he reveals himself and tries to guess the roles of the two representatives of good.
- If the Blind Hunter guesses the roles of the two representatives of good, evil wins.
- If the Blind Hunter is wrong, good wins.
The game ends after the Hunt. Players do not proceed to the Last Chance for Good stage.
Last Chance for Good
The representatives of good try to bring Mordred`s henchmen to safety. On the count of "three", each player points with both hands to the two chosen players. The leader orders Mordred`s henchmen to lower their hands. All representatives of evil lower their hands. If the representatives of good point only to the representatives of evil, good wins. If even one representative of good is wrong, evil wins.
