Board Game Level 10
A cooperative card filler from Japanese game designer Hisashi Hayashi, designed in the style of an 8-bit video game. This is a 2022 redesign of the fast-paced card game «Okey Dokey», released in 2016.
8-bit cooperative arcade
In this board game, players work together to help the brave Link defeat Lord Ganon`s horde and complete all 10 levels in 5 worlds. Players take turns laying out cards in 5 rows. Each row – represents one of the worlds. Players win if they manage to lay out 40 level cards and 10 restart cards. If one of the players cannot lay out a card on their turn, the team (and Link) immediately loses.
At the beginning of the game, you need to lay out a restart card column - 2 cards for each future row (during the game, level cards are laid out in rows to the right of these restart cards). Then the players shuffle the level cards together with the pause cards (the fewer pause cards, the more difficult the game). Each player receives a certain number of cards from the shuffled deck in his hand (depending on the number of participants).
Game progress
Players take turns, clockwise, until they lay out 5 rows of 10 cards. On their turn, the player performs one of 2 actions:
- Lays out a level card or a pause card from his hand. The player places a card in the appropriate row, and then takes a card from the deck into his hand.
- Places a restart card. The player takes one of the restart cards to the left of this row and places it at the end of the row. Then the player can discard 1-2 cards from his hand and take the same number of cards from the deck.
During the game, players can tell each other how many cards of a certain world they have in their hand. Or that they plan to place a card of a certain world or a restart card for a certain world on their next turn. You cannot show your hand or share any other information.
Rules for placing cards
- All level cards in a row must belong to the same world.
- The card number must be the same or greater than the number of the previous card. The restart card resets the current level number.
- You cannot play cards in a new column until the players have completed the current one.
- Each column must have 4 level (or pause) cards and 1 restart card.
- Instead of a level card, you can play a pause card. The pause card number is the same as the previous card number.
Winning and Losing
Players win if they manage to play 50 level and restart cards (40 level cards and 10 restart cards).
If a player has cards in their hand but cannot perform either of the two actions, the entire team loses.
