A popular Japanese card game using a deck of «hanafuda» (translated as «flower cards»), which consists of 48 cards of twelve suits. Each suit corresponds to a certain month and plant - January / pine, February / plum, March / sakura, etc. The cards are divided into four types - simple, ribbons, animals and bright.
Flower poker
This is a fast-paced dueling game in which players make combinations of flowers, ribbons, animals and bright cards - and receive victory points for this.
Before the game starts, the opponents decide how many rounds they will play (12, 6 or 3), and indicate the starting number of points (100, 50 or 25 points, respectively). All cards are mixed into one deck. Players are dealt 8 random cards. 8 cards are laid out in the center of the table. The first player - the sensei - becomes the dealer, and then the winner of the previous round.
How to play?
Players take turns. Passing is not allowed. Active player:
OR
THEN the active player reveals the top card from the deck. If it matches the suit of one of the cards in the center of the table, the player takes both cards. If not, it is added to the cards in the center of the table.
It happens that a card matches the suit of three cards in the center of the table. Then the player receives all four cards of this suit.
End of the round
Players collect combinations of cards "yaku" and receive victory points. Having collected a combination, the player can end the round and declare victory ("agari"). Or he can say "koi-koi", which means "continue". If the player who said "koi-koi" collects a new combination and wins the round as a result, his points are doubled. The number of times the winner of the round says «koi-koi» is the number of times his earned points will be doubled.
The round also ends when the players run out of cards in their hands. In this case, a draw is declared, and no one gets points. When the winner gets points, they flow to him from the opponent.
Combinations of «koi»
End of the game
The game continues until the players have played the stated number of rounds. The player with the most points wins. The game may end earlier if a player loses all of his points. Then the victory is automatically awarded to his opponent.
