Board Game Codenames - Duet
Cooperative «Codenames»
A cooperative version of the famous «Codenames», designed for two players. The game can also be played with a large number of players if you divide into two teams. The basic mechanics have not undergone any fundamental changes: players receive a hint - word + number - and, based on the associations that the given word evokes in them, try to find the corresponding cards on the field. If the players find all their agents within the allotted time, which is measured by time tokens, and do not come across the killer, they win the game.
Main differences from the base game
- cooperative principle: participants do not compete with each other, but oppose the game mechanics. Either everyone wins, or all participants lose;
- a double-sided key card with agents, civilians, and three assassins marked on it is placed in the middle of the table. The sides of the card are different. Participants see only one, their own side;
- each round, one player becomes the captain, gives a clue word and a number, the other searches for agents on the field according to their associations. Then, in the next round, the roles are reversed. This continues until all agents are found, the time tokens run out, or a meeting with an assassin occurs;
- each turn consumes one time token. To win the game, you need to invest 9 time tokens.
Spy missions
For greater interest, the game provides missions. The missions specify the number of time tokens used and the number of possible mistakes when the player reveals a civilian card instead of an agent card. After completing one mission, players move on to the next one according to the card in the spy notebook. Some missions have more tokens, some have fewer, some require fewer mistakes, and some, like in Monte Carlo or the Vatican, do not make any at all.
