Snake

A snake in Ukrainian demonology is a demonic creature that is often considered a symbol of evil and destructive forces. It can have different forms, but most often it is imagined as a huge snake with bright scales that glisten in the sun. Sometimes the serpent can appear as a person, tempting with charms and promises of wealth or power, but in reality seeks to cause harm.

The snake is associated with water and underground forces, and its presence can be dangerous for people, especially those who live near bodies of water. In folk beliefs, it is believed that a snake can kidnap young women or bring trouble to homes. He also preys on young girls whom he takes to be his "wives". Sometimes the snake takes on the form of the Perelesnik, incarnated in the form of deceased loved ones or loved ones, and flies to women at night, drawing milk from their breasts, symbolizing his attempts to take away women`s strength and energy.

To protect themselves from the snake, people resorted to various rituals. One way was to wear talismans, such as specially made amulets, to scare him away. Purification rituals were also used, which included the consecration of water and the holding of prayers. In case of encountering a snake, it was important not to give in to its temptations and to remain calm, because fear only increases its influence.
