Misers

Zlydni are dwarf frozen creatures in Ukrainian demonology. They are small, huddled in the corner behind the stove and are always hungry. Poverty does not have a completely defined appearance; he can speak but remains invisible. There is a possibility that the Poor turn into the images of a little man, a small child or a poor old man. There can be several of them, and if they appear in the house, even the richest owner can soon become poor, because the poor are children of misfortune.

According to popular belief, the Poor cause harm by emphasizing poverty and deprivation. They can cause a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness in the people they molest.

You can protect yourself from Poverty with the help of rituals related to generosity and good deeds. It is believed that it is important to care for those in need, because kindness and generosity can distract the Poor. It is also recommended to keep a holy image or holy water in the house, which, according to beliefs, can scare away these creatures. In some traditions, special charms were used, such as red ribbons or charm dolls, to protect the home from the negative energy of the Poverty.
