It was believed that wolves attack only those who have violated the laws of the forest or nature. In addition, wolves were believed to obey the spirits of the forest, who told them who to attack or whom to leave alone.
To protect themselves from the wolf, people wore charms made of iron or garlic, and avoided hunting wolves unnecessarily. It was believed that excessive aggression towards these animals could bring misfortune to the family or provoke the anger of the forest spirits who rule the wolves.
