Povitrulya

Air is a magical mythical creature of Ukrainian demonology, associated with the element of wind. She is considered the daughter of the mountain winds of the Carpathians. Airs are described as light, swift and freedom-loving spirits, able to fly and move without touching the ground. Externally, they often appear as beautiful red-haired girls with blue eyes, dressed in flowers or in light, almost transparent clothes. They are credited with wings that give them the ability to control the winds.

The airs are changeable creatures. They can be friendly, help in matters of the heart, but at the same time, they can cause storms or strong whirlwinds if they are angry. In folk beliefs, if a man steals the wings of the air, she will be forced to fulfill his wishes or even marry him. However, such unions are short-lived, since after the return of the wings, she will instantly leave her companion.

Although they often help in love, the airs can also be dangerous. Their anger can cause natural disasters - with one flap of their wings they can uproot a tree or create a tornado. However, they also have an enemy - the forest spirit Chugaistr, with whom they are at constant enmity.

Airs appear in the spring and summer, when they fly freely over the meadows, but with the onset of cold weather, they hide in the mountains until the next warm season.
