Dog head man

Dog-heads are mythical creatures in Ukrainian demonology that look like people with the head of a dog or a wolf. They are usually depicted as cruel giants who look scary: with the head of a dog, with the skin of a bear, one eye in the middle and one horn. According to some legends, Hounds can have one arm and one leg and move in pairs, holding each other. They, like vampires, can drink human blood, which emphasizes their aggressiveness.

The hounds are known for their ability to get in the way of travelers, intimidating and kidnapping them. According to legends, they can be the souls of those who died a violent death or people who committed grave sins during their lifetime. Their main goal is to take the souls of innocent people whom they haunt at night.

To protect themselves from Hounds, people used various charms such as prayers and symbols to scare away these creatures. In some cases, it was recommended to avoid traveling at night or not to enter forest thickets where they could be encountered. It was also important to observe certain customs related to the honoring of ancestors, so as not to incur the wrath of the spirits.
