Mezhovyk

Mezhovyk is a mythical creature of Ukrainian demonology, which was considered a guardian of the borders and borders of lands. Its main task was to protect the borders between lands or fields to prevent quarrels between neighbors. Mezhovyki were considered guardian spirits of the land, who monitored compliance with established boundaries and could punish those who tried to violate them.

In the imagination of people, a mezhovyk usually appears as a small anthropomorphic creature with certain animal features. He is often depicted with horns or a tail, symbolizing his connection to the earth and the natural elements. People believed that if you violated the boundaries without permission or tried to appropriate someone else`s property, the border guard could bring bad luck, disease, or cause natural disasters.

To appease the middleman, people sometimes brought gifts, leaving bread or grain on the border of their fields. He was also asked for protection in difficult times or during land conflicts, because the border guards were considered fair guardians who maintained peace and order between neighbors.
