Mayka

Maika in Ukrainian demonology is the spirit or ghost of a woman who died a wrongful death, often due to tragic circumstances or at a young age. Its appearance is associated with unresolved issues, unfinished business or a strong sense of longing for life. A T-shirt can appear as a shadow or a figure that looks like a living person, but with some differences, such as no shadow or feet not touching the ground.

The Maykas have some similarities with the Mavkas, but sometimes they differ in appearance — they are described as short girls. In behavior, they can be similar to Mavok: luring or attracting people to interact. Some legends say that you can catch Mike and take her as your wife, but marriage with her will always be unhappy. It is believed that if you ask Mike the wife about some secret, she will definitely answer, but after that she will disappear forever.

To protect themselves from Maika, they used holy water, crosses and prayers. At the same time, there were more interesting methods of protection, such as placing sharp objects under the pillow or on the threshold of the house to stop the spirit. It was also believed that prayers and gifts left at the grave could help Mayca find peace and stop the persecution. It was also believed that if Maika is the spirit of a deceased relative, she should be prayed for to help her soul find peace, and sometimes food or flowers were left at her grave as a symbol of reconciliation with the spirit.
