Lyzun

Lyzun in Ukrainian demonology is a spirit or demon that is often associated with house or household spirits. The creeper is known for its ability to sneak into houses and harm people or livestock. His name comes from the fact that he is said to "lick up" food or milk left on tables, and also drains the strength of livestock by taking milk from cows.

The Lizun`s appearance can vary: sometimes it is described as a small, shadow-like creature that moves very quickly and imperceptibly, or as an invisible spirit whose presence can be felt through its damage. Its action often remains invisible, but the consequences are visible: milk disappears, cattle become weak, and food on the table suddenly spoils.

A creeper can be a sinister force if the owners do not take care of order in the house or are too stingy. In folk beliefs, it is believed that if Lizun gets into the house, it will lead to diseases and impoverishment.

To protect themselves from Lizun, people kept the house clean and orderly, and also used charms. Special attention was paid to Christian symbolism: holy water, icons and prayers could help expel or neutralize Lizun. Another interesting way was to leave some food or milk overnight for the spirit to appease it and prevent harm.
