Domovyk
Domovyk is a good spirit in Ukrainian demonology, which is considered the guardian of the home and family hearth. He lives in every house and takes care of its inhabitants, maintaining order and protecting the home from evil forces. The Housekeeper is usually invisible, but can sometimes appear as a small bearded man dressed in plain clothes. In some regions, it is described with animal features, in particular with cat or bird legs.
A housekeeper helps the family in everyday life: it can inconspicuously sweep the floor, take care of livestock or protect children in their sleep. But if he is not respected or violates the order in the house, he can become angry, start acting out - hide things, make noise at night or even scare the residents. Domovik is especially fond of neat owners and those who take care of their home.
To appease the homeboy and maintain his friendly mood, the hosts left food for him: bread, porridge or milk. It was also important not to quarrel in the house, as the housekeeper likes peace and order. In order for the housekeeper to protect the house from evil spirits, people often lit candles or sprinkled the house with holy water. When moving to a new home, the housekeeper was especially attentive, inviting him to move with his family so that he would continue to protect the new home.
