Balamuten

Balamuten in Ukrainian demonology is a demonic creature that causes chaos, unrest and disturbance. His name comes from the word "balamutity", which means to disturb, confuse, create a mess. Balamuten is known for causing misunderstandings and quarrels, as well as leading people astray, causing them to do rash actions.

In more recent or alternative interpretations, Balamuten is associated with a swamp spirit that lives in rivers and lakes. He often kidnaps young girls, but always returns them alive, with no intention of harm. This spirit shows little aggression towards humans, only occasionally playing pranks on them. It appears only in the evening, so it is impossible to see it in sunny weather.

Appearance: In one description, Balamuten appears as a large spirit with a jug-shaped head, a bloated face, green skin, a huge belly, and crooked legs. It resembles images of other water spirits such as Aquarius, but with its own unique traits.

Balamuten is practically immortal, but it can be harmed by strong sun or complete drying of its habitat.

In traditional demonology, Balamuten brings unrest to people`s lives, causes quarrels and disrupts harmony in society, but in newer versions he also has the features of a water spirit that plays tricks on people and kidnaps girls.
